Introducing GEOBIND
The first 100% New Zealand-made binder for hempcrete walling
GEOBIND is a blended mineral based bio aggregate binder developed and managed by Rockstead Construction owner Doug Sturrock - set to lead the way in sustainable construction innovation.
Always looking to find products to help Rockstead Construction be more sustainable, Doug came across Hempcrete, an alternative walling product being successfully used in the United Kingdom. Made from a hemp and binder mix, the Hempcrete was carbon negative plus was improving living environments, as its breathable nature takes moisture out of the air, helping to combat moldy, damp and unhealthy homes.
My first thought was “where can I get my hands on this, I want to build my own home out of it!” - Doug
However with challenges finding suppliers and counter intuitive costs and carbon footprints of shipping product from overseas Doug was spurred on to develop and manufacture a New Zealand made Hempcrete alternative - GEOBIND.
After rigorous testing with Callaghan Innovation, GEOBIND when mixed with New Zealand grown hemp is proven to excel in both strength and durability when compared to similar products.
Developed with a vision to provide an environmentally friendly alternative for the construction industry, helping to achieve New Zealand's 2030 carbon reduction goals and healthier homes.
